Lehighton Area High School varsity cheerleaders, along with cheerleaders from other area high schools, competed in the Delaware Valley College Gold Cup Cheer Classic this earlier this month in Doylestown, Pa.

The girls competed in the High School Varsity Small Group Division, taking first place.

Christopher Dock High School placed second, Upper Moreland High School placed third, with Marian Catholic High School placing fourth.

In the High School Varsity Co-ed Division, Jim Thorpe Area High School took first and Bensalem High School placed second.

Lehighton High School also received the highest score of the day, earning the "2012 Gold Cup Cheer Classic Overall High Score Champions."

This is the first time Lehighton High School has captured an overall high score cheering championship.

Other competitions that the Lehighton Cheerleaders competed in for the 2011-2012 season included Moravian College Cheer Classic, where they took second place; and the Freedom High School Patriot Pride Cheer, where they earned third place

In addition to competitions, they also cheer for football, basketball and wrestling.

Lehighton cheerleaders are coached by head coach Beth Kamowski, and assistant coaches Kara Kamowski and Lisa Sawyer.
