The Carbon County EOC will host a G-290 Basic Public Information Officer workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 24 and 25, at the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency, 1264 Emergency Lane, Nesquehoning. The course is free to any municipal, county government, private industry and school district personnel who have emergency management responsibilities.
The course is designed to prepare participants to function as full- or part-time public information officers (PIO). Additionally, this training is a prerequisite and foundation for more advanced training that takes participants from the awareness level to the mastery level in their public information careers.
The training will equip participants with the basic skills needed to function as PIOs, such as oral and written communications, understanding and working with the media, and basic tools and techniques needed to perform effectively.
