Palmerton Area School District has solicited offers for renovations to its high school auditorium.

The district will accept bids until 11 a.m. April 13. The project will install new theatrical lighting, a safer rigging system, curtains, a sound system, carpeting, painting, and general redecorating, said Superintendent Carol Boyce.

"The current systems are no longer efficient and parts are no longer available to repair them," Boyce said. "This work will be a real boost for our student efforts in drama and music."

Boyce said the renovations will be a vast improvement over the current auditorium.

"We have seen the computer renderings and samples of carpeting, and are really excited about what is to come," she said. "It will be a real addition to Bomber pride."

The project will be paid for from out of the $5 million bond the prior school board agreed to borrow.

Boyce said the auditorium should be completed in time for the start of the 2012-13 school year.

A prebid meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the project site. All prospective bidders are encouraged to attend.
