A Philadelphia driver was cited for multiple charges following a chase in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident began about 2:05 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, when Officer Jeff Lutz was westbound on Laurel Drive, in Tobyhanna, at the intersection with SR611 when he observed a Nissan make a left turn from 611 south into the officer's lane of travel. While Lutz turned his cruiser around the Nissan accelerated. Lutz activated his emergency lights and siren but the Nissan's driver continued to flee onto Echo Lake Road and SR196 failing to stop for a red traffic signal. The Nissan then passed three vehicles on SR196 and turned onto Country Place Drive. At this point the Nissan got behind slower moving traffic and the driver stopped. The driver provided a photo driver's license. A check of the license revealed that it did not belong to the person driving the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and later identified by fingerprints as being Wayne Eric Barnes, 41.Barnes was charged with fleeing and eluding police, identity theft, false identification to law enforcement and multiple motor vehicle code violations. He was placed in the county prison in Snydersville pending arraignment.
