Coaldale police have charged a Tamaqua man with driving under the influence.
Brian S. Fritz, 35, of 335 Hazle St., Tamaqua, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance; possession of a small amount of marijuana.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Coaldale Officer Joseph Krebs, the officer was dispatched to an accident in the 100 block of Second Street. When he arrived, he spoke with a Robert Staneck, who had seen a blue Plymouth trying to pull into a parking space in front of his vehicle.
The driver of the Plymouth struck the front left quarter panel of Staneck's vehicle, slightly damaging it.
Krebs spoke with the driver of the Plymouth, identified as Fritz. The officer smelled alcohol on Fritz' breath, and noted that his speech was slurred and his eyes glassy. After agreeing to take a field sobriety test, Fritz was arrested for DUI. Fritz told Krebs he had taken multiple prescription pain medications.
When Krebs reached in to take the keys from the ignition, he noticed two plastic bags filled with green vegetable matter, later found to be marijuana, on the floor. Fritz had blood drawn and sent for chemical testing.
