Miller-Keystone Blood Center's bimonthly community blood drive in Palmerton on June 12 was a success. A rainy day brought 82 potential donors to the First United Church of Christ's Fellowship Hall, and 85 units of blood were collected. Both numbers exceeded the goals. This visit was sponsored by William and Marilyn Kissner. Sponsorship provides additional refreshments for donors, and the custodian's fee.
The following donors reached gallon levels: Delbert Eckhart, 21 gallons; Thomas Davies, 18 gallons; John Cebrosky, Jr., 17 gallons; Janice Mack and David Snyder, 9 gallons each; Delphin George, 6 gallons; Ricky Kistler and Brian Wanamaker, 3 gallons each; Cynthia Reitz, 2 gallons; Mary Gallagher and Crystal Petrycia, 1 gallon each. There were four first-time donors.
A successful blood drive requires a large number of volunteers, both at the drive and working "behind the scenes." These included Pam Andrews, Mary Beth Beers, Romaine Biege, Jane Cervenak, "Honey" Cyr, Arlene Dombrosky, Thomasine Falcone, Linda Finley, Jean Fritzinger, Rita Goidich, Shirley Greene, Jean Halmi, Anita Harry, Betty Hartman, "Biff" Hayes, Marian Hoffner, Susan Hunsicker, Bernice Kleintop, Nancy Kresge, Cecelia McLaughlin, Shirley Neff, Helen Nonnemaker, Darlene Nothstein, Richard Nothstein, Carol Papay, Evelyn Plechavy, Marge Porambo, Terri Sebelin, Perma Snyder, Betty Steigerwalt, Kathy Steigerwalt, Mary Taschler, Lisa Vignone, Annette Wargo, Tara Wargo and Brenda Wentz.
The next Miller-Keystone community blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 22.
