A Palmerton man who brandished a sword at a police officer after a domestic dispute with his grandmother has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Randy Pastor, 19, of 210 Lehigh Ave., chose to forego his hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.As a result, Pastor is scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference at 10 a.m. July 6 in the district attorney's office in the courthouse in Jim Thorpe.Pastor was initially charged with one count of aggravated assault, and two counts of simple assault. However, one of the charges of simple assault has been dropped.He remains free in lieu of $2,000 straight bail.According to the affidavit or probable cause filed by patrolman Christopher Ritter of the Palmerton Police Department:At 4:30 a.m. June 1, Ritter was dispatched to an active domestic disturbance at 210 Lehigh Ave., in which the caller's son was attacking his grandmother, according to the affidavit.Ritter arrived at the residence at 4:31 a.m., and found the home to be a single story with the living room to the right and bedrooms to the left, the affidavit says.As he approached, he could see two females seated in the living room and the room illuminated only by the television.The door was answered by the caller, Laura Pastor, who allowed Ritter inside and stated her son was "out of control" and had choked his grandmother. The son was inside his bedroom at the time.Just as Ritter began to cross the living room toward the hallway, Randy Pastor sprang from the hallway brandishing a large sword in both hands, and screaming "Who's in my house?Ritter drew his pistol, and repeatedly ordered Pastor to put the sword down; however, he continued to wave the sword and point it toward Ritter.The sword appeared to be about three-feet in length, with a two-handed handle, and due to the confines of the room, the point of the sword was only a few feet from Ritter's chest.At that point, Laura Pastor walked over and put her arm around Randy Pastor's shoulders, placing her in Ritter's line of fire. As a result, Ritter transitioned to his Taser and fired, striking Randy Pastor in the chest and causing him to drop the sword and go to the floor, where he was arrested.Ritter then spoke with Laura Pastor and her mother, Randy Pastor's grandmother, who stated that during an argument, Randy Pastor had choked his grandmother in the hallway, making her unable to speak or breathe, and prompting Laura Pastor's call to 9-1-1.Randy Pastor was later mirandized and interviewed, at which time he stated he had no memory of these events.
