Work began yesterday on the construction of new basketball courts along Amidon Street next to the Ginder Field in Summit Hill.

Heavy equipment began digging up the blacktop at the heavily-used courts.Monica Marshall, president of the Summit Hill Recreation Commission, said two new courts will be built as well as three smaller courts for younger children. The courts are being reconstructed thanks to a $75,000 grant obtained through the Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization (SHCIO).The new regular size basketball courts will be separated with an area that will have benches situated between them for teams participating in organized play.Marshall said it is hoped additional improvements can occur in the area of the Ginder Field. Last year, some new playground rides were added. She had told Summit Hill Borough Council that the commission is hoping to install a volleyball court sometime in the future.
