Beltzville beach reopens

The beach at Beltzville State Park was allowed to reopen Friday as the Pa. Department of Conservation and Natural Resources determined water levels to be acceptable.

The beach was closed Wednesday afternoon due to high bacterial counts in the water, which were revealed from testing that occurred on Tuesday, May 29.Officials said swimming is again permitted.Meanwhile, the beach at Tuscarora State Park remains closed.The beach closed Sunday, May 27, because of last week's flooding, which caused debris and muddy water in the beach area.Water was tested yesterday for bacterial content and until the tests show acceptable levels, the beach will remain closed.Mauch Chunk State Park in Jim Thorpe was not affected by the heavy rains and continues operating.
