Monroe woman facing fraud count

Pocono Mountain Regional police said a Monroe County woman has been jailed on several counts including prescription fraud.

Police said on May 3 about 2 p.m. they received a report from employees of the Blakeslee Pharmacy about prescription fraud.Police allege that Michele Szumera, 48, of Canadensis, called in a prescription for 30 oxycodone tablets. She later arrived at the pharmacy to obtain the tablets.On Tuesday, May 29, Szumera was arrested at the county courthouse in Stroudsburg, on charges of forgery, tampering with records, acquisition or obtaining a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.She was arraigned before District Judge John D. Whitesell, of Mountainhome, and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post $20,000 percentage bail.
