Lehighton pool's operation praised

Carlos Teets of Lehighton, whose aunt and uncle donated the land for what is now Baer Memorial Park, last night told Lehighton Borough Council how proud he is of the operations at the Lehighton Municipal Swimming Pool.

"My uncle and my aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Baer, would be very, very proud to see that today," Teets said. The land for the park was donated by the late Carlos and Florence Baer in the 1950s and designated strictly for recreation.Several years ago the pool was completely renovated with slides, water fountains, an updated refreshment stand, and other features. As a result, the pool has high usage.Teets gave praise to Lehighton Recreation Director Tom Evans for his commitment to improving the facilities not only at the pool but doing so many positive things for recreation throughout the borough. At the pool, Evans not only is the manager but has organized numerous special events to increase interest and attendance.Teets thanked the Lehighton Pool Pals for continuing to raise money that is used for pool improvements; Mayor Donald Rehrig, council members George Kogut and Bessie Bauchspies, and borough council members in general.Kogut said more improvements are planned for Baer Memorial Park."We're continuing moving forward," he said, noting that lights for the baseball field are planned as well as installation of basketball courts. The lights and basketball court are unlikely for this season.
