MapleShade Meadows Assisted Living Center in Nesquehoning in conjunction with the Jukebox Cruisers will hold a Car Cruise on Saturday, July 28 from noon to 3 p.m. on the grounds of MapleShade Meadows at 50 Locust Street, Nesquehoning. This will be the third year for the event.
On display will be various antique, classic and special interest vehicles. "Cruisin'" music will be provided by DJ Ray and refreshments will be available for a donation.
Admittance to the event is free however, visitors are asked to please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the St. Joseph's Ecumenical Food Pantry.
On Friday, MapleShade residents and their families will take a step back in time and enjoy a Sock Hop at the center from noon to 5 p.m. Fifties themed music will be playing and the center's bistro will be transformed into Linda's Doo Wop Diner where shakes, malts, burgers, fries and memories will be shared.
"The Sock Hop and Jukebox Cruise gives the residents the opportunity to reminisce about their younger days or, 'the good old days;' revisiting memories of borrowing Dad's car to go out with friends on the weekend to the local soda shop, football or basketball games or also remembering their first dates," said Melanie Goodman, executive director of the center. "Sharing their memories and stories with family and friends keeps the past alive."
