Jim Thorpe Memorial Park will be alive with the sounds of "Cruise to the Music" on Saturday, July 21. The event is a music festival and car cruise that offers spectacular live entertainment music throughout the day.
This event is United Way of Carbon County's fifth annual cruise. The car cruise features the Jukebox Cruisers, a local car club, which promotes classic, antique and special interest vehicles in the Jim Thorpe area
"This is a free event, with lots of fun and things to do for the entire family," said Donna Lennon, who is co-organizing the event with Dr. Lisa Bleicher. "We have the entire community involved at some level."
Lennon said that Cruise to the Music is United Way of Carbon County's only fundraiser.
"Our goal is to raise $15,000 at this event, which is 23 percent of our entire income for the year," she said.
Lennon said that United Way of Carbon County needs the public's support to make it a huge success.
Cruise to the Music has music beginning at 1 p.m. through 11 p.m. Those 10 hours of music will delight those who love jazz, contemporary music, gospel, country rock, blues, dance music, youth rock and pop rock.
Opening the event is the Mike Williams Band at 1 p.m., a jazz musician; following by Kristopher Scherer at 1:30 p.m. performing contemporary music, with guitar vocals; at 2 p.m. Jukebox Cruisers will hold a grease music dance party; at 2:30 p.m., Jason O, will perform contemporary, world music; at 3:30 p.m., Robin Kessler and Danny Grae will be offering country/rock.
At 4 p.m. Rowan Thomas, will perform gospel, and at 5 p.m., Renard Cohen will do blues, rock originals; at 6 p.m., Thad Tinsley Jr., solo guitarist will bring jazz to the stage; at 6:30 p.m., Identity Crisis Band will perform classic rock and blues; and at 7:30 p.m., there will be D.J. party music.
At 8 p.m., Karen Meeks and the Soul will perform and at 9 p.m. A.D.D. will perform youth rock, classic rock and original music. At 10 p.m., She Said Sunday will perform pop, rock to finish up the event.
There will be a Chinese auction, crafters, food, free kid's activities, and a beer and wine garden. Everyone is invited to bring their lawn chair and enjoy the music and the day with the Carbon County United Way.

Newly elected officers for 2012-2013 are, Dr. Lisa Bleicher, president; Donna Lennon, vice president; Angela M. Nardini, vice president of marketing, public relations and media; Mindy Graver, vice president of campaign. Agency liaisons are Bernetta Frantz and Oscar Santizo.
Lore McLaughlin is the secretary and Christine Leibold is the treasurer.
The United Way of Carbon County helps fund many nonprofit agencies in Carbon County through payroll contributions, donations, fundraising events and grants.
These agencies provide health and human services to those most in need in the local community.
The 2012 participating agencies are: American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley (Carbon County Branch), ARC of Northeast Pa., Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bridge; Carbon County Action Committee, CTC Manufacturing, Career Link Human Resources Center, Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries/Volunteer Home Care, Family Promise, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pa., Girl Scouts of Eastern Pa., Healthy Smiles Dental Van, Meals on Wheels, Palmerton; Methodist Services for Children and Family/Genesis; North Penn Legal Services, Pathstone/Headstart/Early Head Start/Pre-K Counts, Peaceful Knights, Penn State Extension/Prosper Project, Shepherd House Inc., and The Salvation Army Service Unit Program.
