Northampton County man facing theft count

Coaldale police have charged a Northampton County man with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after taking $3,048 from a borough woman for roof repairs that were never done.

James Michael Deiter, 30, of 897 N. Summit Rd., Bath, allegedly took the money and ran, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Police Chief Tim Delaney.Michelle Valentine on June 28 told police that she had signed a contract on Sept. 21, 2011, with Deiter Maintenance LLC for work to be done on her house at 157 First St. The work included a new roof, back porch and ice/water shield, the use of 30 lb. paper and fixing the corners on gutters.Valentine paid Deiter cash. After a few months with no work done she tried to call him only to discover that both phone numbers he had given her had been disconnected.She went to the address he had given her but the building was empty and locked.Valentine hasn't seen or heard from Deiter.
