A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a two-vehicle crash in which he fled the scene but was later caught. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 11:27 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, along SR209, between Cumbola and Port Carbon, in East Norwegian Township.
Troopers said Marlin Hosier, 52, of New Philadelphia, was driving northbound and swerved into the southbound lane where his vehicle struck the left front driver's side of a vehicle operated by Joshua Trunk, 23, of Tamaqua.
After impact Trunk's vehicle traveled through the parking lot of John's Restaurant and came to rest against a tree almost falling into a nearby creek.
Hosier fled the scene but was followed by a witness and stopped about two miles from the scene.
Trunk sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment.
Troopers said Hosier showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest. He was taken to the SMC-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.
The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.
