The Tamaqua girls swim team remained undefeated in Schuylkill League action by cruising to a win over North Schuylkill.

The win sets up a showdown for the league title as the Lady Raiders (10-1; 4-0) travel to Blue Mountain (8-2; 4-0) on Thursday.

In other local action, the Palmerton girls basketball team qualified for the district playoffs with a win over Catasauqua.

SWIMMING

Tamaqua-No. Schuylkill

Tamaqua swept North Schuylkill in swimming action on Thursday afternoon with the men gaining an 84-48 decision and the women cruising to a 132-32 victory.

For the Lady Raiders, Danielle DeCindio took home victories in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Fly. Joann Butkus continued her successful season, winning the 500 Freestyle while competing on every Tamaqua relay team. The Lady Raiders won every relay event against the Lady Spartans.

For the Tamaqua boys, Gage Whalen took home two wins in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Fly. Zak Yachera also won two events in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke.

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Palmerton scored the first 16 points of the game and never looked back as it rolled to a 45-16 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

With the win, the Lady Bombers qualified for the District 11 3A playoffs upping their record to 11-7 overall and 6-6 in league play.

Jade Farquhar finished with a game-high 14 points. Kelsey Hay added 10. Olivia Falko had seven of Catasauqua's 16 points.

Jim Thorpe continued its troubles from the foul line this season shooting 7-for-30 from the charity stripe as they dropped their 10th straight game 57-52 to Blue Mountain.

The Olympians (5-12) were led by PJ Johnson's 19 points, while Connor Ennis chipped in with 10.

Jake Kryts scored a game-high 22 points for the Eagles.

Panther Valley had a rough time at Martz Hall Thursday night getting outscored 16-4 in the first quarter and Pottsville continued their run down the stretch downing the Panthers 56-29 for the Schuylkill League Division 1 victory.

Brock Mitchell was high scorer for the Panthers with eight points.

Brandon Bridy led the Tide with 14 points.

Pleasant Valley nearly knocked off Lehigh Valley Conference leader Parkland on Wednesday night losing by a score of 52-49.

The Bears outscored the Trojans 13-5 in the final quarter but it wasn't enough to earn the upset victory.

Marquis Brown led the Bears' charge with 14 points and Selwyn Wright helped out with 11.

For Parkland Austin Beidelman scored 13 points.

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

The Blue Bombers and Green Knights wrestled on back-to-back nights and it was Pen Argyl winning 10 bouts to pick up a 44-15 Colonial League victory.

Sam Oberlander picked up a pin and Dillon Masington a decision to put the Bombers up 9-0, but the Green Knights won six of the next seven bouts and never looked back.

Cody Grohotolski won by decision and Kane Kralik by fall for the other two Bomber wins.
