Carbon County officials have announced that the annual Carbon County Outdated Telephone Directory Recycling program, also known as the Phone Book Recycling Program, will take place from Feb. 1 through Feb. 17 at participating schools.
After the deadline, the county Department of Solid Waste will present awards to the students who bring in the most books, as well as who brings in the oldest telephone book.
Since 1996, over 323,000 old phone books have been collected, recycled and/or reused as animal bedding on local farms. Old phone books are ideally suited for reuse as animal bedding due to the high absorbancy rate, cleanliness and biodegradability.
For more information, contact your child's school to see if they are participating or call the Carbon County Department of Solid Waste at (610) 852-5111.
