Car strikes parked car, utility pole

Two Lansford residents were injured, one seriously, in an allegedly alcohol-related crash late Saturday night in the borough.

The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. when a car operated by Roy Woodward, Jr. struck a parked car along the north berm in the 300 block of West Patterson Street.After the impact, police report Woodward attempted to flee the scene, striking a utility pole. Woodward was treated at the scene and transported to the Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.His passenger, Lisa Sword, was treated at the scene by members of the Lansford ambulance and Lehighton paramedics, then flown via Penn Star helicopter to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center, with serious facial wounds, said Chief John Turcmanovich.Information on her condition was not available as of early Monday.Patterson Street (Route 209) was closed for a period of time. Lansford police are investigating the incident.Turcmanovich said charges against Woodward Jr. are pending the results of a blood-alcohol test.
