Despite his request to hold an open Primary in the 124th, State Representative Jerry Knowles received the unanimous endorsement of the Berks County Republican Party this weekend.
In a speech to the packed gathering of Berks GOP members at their annual convention on Saturday, Knowles made it known that he was not seeking an endorsement, however his request was rejected and he received a unanimous show of support.
Members of the Berks GOP Executive Committee asked Knowles to reconsider his position, citing his "strong conservative values" and "fiscally responsible voting record."
"While I have always been focused on taking my message to the voters in this Primary, it is an honor to receive the support of the Berks County GOP," Knowles said. "As the proven fiscal conservative in this race, I'm grateful to have earned the respect of the Republican leadership in Berks County."
The Executive Committee cited Knowles' record fighting for taxpayers and his support of common-sense reforms in Harrisburg as critical to earning their support. Committee members understood his interest in an open Primary, but said his "positive behavior deserves positive rewards." One member said, "Jerry deserves to be rewarded for being a true steward of the taxpayer in Harrisburg."
