A driver was cited following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, along SR54 in Ryan Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Joshua L. Keff, 31, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2006 Chrysler Sebring eastbound when he said a deer entered the road in front of him. He swerved to avoid the deer and crossed both lanes of travel, went onto the berm and impacted with a utility pole.

Keff sustained minor cuts to his hands and did not require immediate medical attention. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Keff was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, troopers said.

Troopers also reported investigating a crash about 6:07 a.m. Tuesday along Interstate 81 in Delano Township in which both drivers were cited.

Troopers said Daniel E. Collins, 53, of Hinsdale, N.H., operating a 1997 Peterbilt truck tractor with trailer, pulled out from the berm at a slow rate of speed while Cheryl Patches, 50, of Newmanstown, Lebanon County, was northbound in the right lane.

The front of Patches' 1999 Mack E7 truck with trailer, hit the rear of Collins' trailer. As a result of the impact the cab of the Mack was completely destroyed and Patches was trapped inside.

Patches was extricated by Delano and Ryan townships fire and rescue personnel and taken to the Hazleton General Hospital for treatment of injuries, not considered life-threatening.

Both rigs had to be towed from the scene.

Troopers cited Patches for not wearing a seatbelt in a commercial vehicle and Collins was cited for restrictions of use of limited access highways and for parking along a limited access highway.
