Shayne Nelson Earle, 29, of 120 Mahanoy Street, Tamaqua, was charged by Coaldale police Officer Joseph Krebs with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, registration, driving a vehicle with bald tires, and having an open bottle of alcohol in the car.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Krebs was monitoring traffic on Route 209 at 1:20 a.m. Jan. 22 in the area of the No. 11 Hill when he noticed a silver Mitsubishi Mirage with an expired registration sticker traveling east. Krebs confirmed the sticker was expired, then followed and stopped the car.

The driver, identified as Earle, was only able to provide a driver's license. The license came back as suspended, and a passenger whose last name is Ryder was wanted by police in Schuylkill County. Krebs placed the woman in his cruiser and called Tamaqua police to come get Earle and take him home.

When Tamaqua police patted Earle down before putting him in their cruiser, they found a glass pipe with green vegetable matter that smelled of burnt marijuana in his left front pocket. He also had an open, half filled container of alcohol next to the passenger side seat in his car.
