Operation: Touch of Home is asking for help in getting names and addresses of area men and women who are serving in Afghanistan and other hostile areas to be recipients of the organization's Spring 2012 shipment of essentials.
Persons having such information are asked to contact firstname.lastname@example.org. One may also download a form from the group's website and mail it to the organization at P.O. Box 162, Brodheadsville, PA 18322.

Grief Support Group
The Grief Support Group meets for a 13-week program at the Effort United Methodist Church on Merwinsburg Road, Effort, on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. New groups are now forming for a program to start in April.
All discussions are held in a caring, supportive and respectful environment.

Linda Salas of Riverside Rehabilitation Services will be the featured speaker at the West End Rotary Club breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Western Pocono Community Library.

PV Band Parents
Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2, at the high school in Brodheadsville.
Lion Ron Nier, Region 1 chairperson for Lions District 14U, visited the Effort Lions Club at the club's recent meeting. He brought members news about upcoming meetings and conventions, and urged members to attend.
He also told the group that the 2017 Lions International Convention will be held in Chicago, in celebration of LCI's 100th anniversary and being the birthplace of Melvin Jones, founder of Lionism.
The next meeting of the Monroe County Seniors is 9 a.m., Friday, Feb. 3. The group gathers twice a week at Zion Lutheran Church in the social hall.
Effort UMC is having a Souper Bowl competition on Super Bowl Sunday.
Parishioners are asked to place their canned goods and nonperishables in collection pots labeled NFL and AFC. The total tally of both pots will be given to the church's Supplemental Food Resource Center.
The total number of families the church food pantry serves continues to grow.
