Memorial

A wreath attached to the railing of a railroad bridge near the Glen Onoko Falls is a memorial to a young Hazleton man who drowned in the Lehigh river several years ago while swimming with friends in the early morning hours. While Monday was a day to remember those who protect our freedoms, those volunteers who maintain for our safety are also important to us in daily life. Rescue operations take a toll on area fire fighters and emergency personnel who respond to the calls, though they receive no compensation for hundreds of hours of grueling work.
