2 arrested following Mahoning burglary

Two Lehighton men were arrested and charged with burglarizing a Mahoning Township residence.

Shane Jefferson, 20, and Justin Mooney, 24, allegedly entered a residence on Orioles Drive on Dec. 11.According to Mahoning Township police, the owner had returned to the residence to find a rear entry door glass pane broken out.A 60-inch TV and a jewelry box filled with various items were discovered missing.Mahoning police said that on Dec. 12 they developed information identifying Jefferson and Mooney as the individuals who had broken into the home. Mahoning Township Officer Jeffrey Frace located them walking on North Seventh Street in Lehighton.At the time of their arrest, police said, Mooney was in possession of an engraved ring that belonged to the victim.Police were able to recover the TV, with the assistance of the Lehighton Police Department, from a shed on Seventh Street.Police said some of the jewelry, which had been sold to gold and coin stores in Lehighton and Palmerton, was recovered. Both admitted breaking into the home, police said.It is alleged by police the stolen items were sold to fund their addiction to heroin.The defendants were arraigned by District Judge Bill Kissner of Palmerton on the following charges filed by Officer Tyler Meek:• Burglary (Felony 1)• Criminal conspiracy-burglary (Felony 1)• Theft by unlawful taking or disposition (Felony 3)• Criminal conspiracy-Theft by unlawful taking or disposition (Felony 3)• Receiving stolen property (Felony 3)• Criminal conspiracy-Receiving stolen property (Felony 3)• Criminal trespass (Felony 3)• Criminal conspiracy-Criminal trespass (Felony 3)• Criminal mischief (Misdemeanor 3)• Criminal conspiracy-Criminal mischief (Misdemeanor 3)Bail was set at $75,000 straight. They were committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
