Weissport Redneck Festival opens Saturday

Weissport's popular Redneck Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday in the Weissport Park in the center of the town.

The festivities, including the Redneck games, contests, food vendors and live entertainment, will be from noon to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the event benefit youth recreation in Weissport. The event is sponsored by the Weissport Recreation Committee.The event will open on Saturday morning with the dedication of the new gazebo in the borough park and to thank the sponsors who helped support the event.There is the Tug a War contest at 5 p.m. Sunday and the Junkman's Contest will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.The Miss Daisy Duke contest is set for 7 p.m. Saturday. The Mr. Redneck Contest will also be held at that time.The Chariot Race, in which teams of two people take turns riding a toilet mounted on wheels down the middle of town, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday.The Zimmies and Hot Wings Eating Cook-Off contest will be at 1 p.m., Saturday. The restaurant that supplies the best wings will receive not only "bragging rights" but the opportunity to display the Best Wings at the Weissport Redneck Festival trophy in their establishment for the next year. Judges are people in the audience who vote by sampling the wings.New this year is the Lawn Tractor Polo, which will surely be a big event at the festival. Lawn Tractor Polo will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday.There is also a Rednecks Got Talent II Contest at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by the Ugliest Pickup Truck at 3 p.m. Saturday; Korniest Couple Contest at 4 p.m.; I Luv My Mummy Contest at 6 p.m. Saturday.Also on Sunday, there will be a Watermelon Eating Contest at 1 p.m.; Big Wheel Contest at 2 p.m.; and Bednobs and Rednecks Bed Race at 6 p.m. The Best Rack Contest will be at 8 p.m.Sign-up for the events will be held throughout the festival and registration will close approximately 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to begin.Entertainment will be provided on Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. by Banned From the Ranch, a country rock band; and on Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m., T. Bag and the Creamers, country variety rock; and from 6-9 Final Justice, country rock.There will also be plenty of Redneck food to taste, such as pork barbecue, corn dogs and corn on the cob and then visitors can wash it all down with plenty of sweet tea and beer.
