GIRLS SOCCER CAPSULES

JIM THORPE

Head coach - Tom Condly (3rd season)Assistant coaches - Willie Macek, Dani CondlyDistrict 11 Class - AALeague - Schuylkill LeagueLast year's record - 10-8 overall (6-6 league)Key losses - Cat Condly, Amber Castillo, Tayler Kidder, Colleen Hoffman, Kimmie Conway, Alyssa Rusbarsky, Paisley Williams, Kate Palumbo, Dianara BuciorKey returnees - Alyssa Smith (Sr., GK), Autumn Cope (Jr., Defender), Rebecca Cressman (Jr., Forward), Anna Beard (Sr., Midfielder), Ilse Hassler (Sr., Midfielder), Meghann Principe (Jr., Midfielder)Others to watch - Brooke Cope (So., Defender), Camille Principe (So., Midfielder), Nicole Reinhart (Sr., Forward), RuiNa Gentile (Jr., Midfielder), Lauren Donati (So., Midfielder), Maggie Holloway (So., Midfielder), Gianna Bucci (Sr., Midfielder), Jackie Condly (Fr., Midfielder), Monet Bullock (Fr., Midfielder)Outlook - This year's Olympians squad's focal point will start in the backfield as Condly's expects his team to play in many competitive, low scoring games. They have several solid goalkeepers, whom are led by Senior Alyssa Smith. The defense is anchored by Autumn Cope, who looks to be strong and athletic out on the soccer field once again. There are some holes to fill however on the Olympians' depth chart with the departure of a trio of All-Schuylkill League players in Cat Condly, Amber Castillo, and Tayler Kidder as well as several other key players who departed thanks to graduation. The Lady Olympians will need to search for ways to make up for the speed and offensive production void left by those Olympian soccer alumni. In addition, youth and inexperience covers the this year's roster.Quotable - "Once again, we have a great group of hardworking girls. We had a big turnover in players from last season to this season. Almost half of the team is new and some are new to the sport. So, we are in a bit of a transition stage. We just have to keep working hard, taking it day by day, as we try to find the right combination between the core returning players and the new players," Head coach Tom Condly.LEHIGHTONHead coach - Rich Emmert (1st season)Assistant coaches - Samantha HughesDistrict 11 Class - AALeague - Schuylkill LeagueLast year's record - 5-13Key losses - Jennifer PlocinikKey returnees - Allison Andrew (Sr., Forward), Lauren Edsall (Sr., Defense), Sydney Gandy (Sr., Midfielder), Erica Koutch (Sr., GK/Defense).Others to watch - Aubrey Blasiak (Fr., Forward/Midfield), Allison Dekorte (Sr., Midfield/Defense), Susan Cook (Jr., Midfield/Forward), Julia Fisher (Jr., Midfield/Forward), Julia Frey (Fr., GK/Defense), Thera Hibbler (Fr., Midfield/Forward), Lauren House (Jr., Defense/Midfield), Alyssa Matika (Fr., Midfield/Forward), Megan Nanovic (So., Midfield/Defense), Cheyenne Pettit (So., Midfield), Rajah Quinones (So., Forward/Midfield), Hanna Schatz (Sr., Midfield/Defense), Brooke Scott (Sr., Forward/Midfield), Jada Whiteman (So., Defense/Midfield), Morgan Yurasits (So., Forward/Defense).Outlook - Lehighton has a dedicated bunch of players that want to have a successful season and have set their goals to beat some school records, as well as have the team qualify for the District 11 playoffs. The Lady Indians have been practicing six days a week and the team is coming together to form a tight knit unit and one family. The girls are catching on fast as to what is expected of them and what it will take to make their goals become reality. Lehighton has been practicing hard and has a well rounded group that can play a good, competitive game of soccer.Quotable - "We have a young team and this season is for learning and working together. Once the team has become that one unit and works together as a unit they are bound to be successful. I would not underestimate this group of girls, they have been putting in long days and add to it their determination to be winners, this team will be the one to watch," Head coach Rich Emmert.NORTHERN LEHIGHHead coach - Jason Reinhard (4th season)Assistant coaches - Patty Jones, Adam Merkle, Jacob Sipos (Student Assistant)District 11 Class - AALeague - Colonial LeagueLast year's record - 5-12-1 overall (2-11 League)Key losses - Rachel Pappas, Brook Seyler, Jess Lear, Morgan Zellner, Sam Eden, Makayla Snyder, Oli Dyer, Taylor Seiler, Maddie LigenzaKey returnees - Emily Bevans (Sr., Defender), Erin Fleischmann (Sr., Defender), Lexi Merkle (Jr., Midfielder), Kayla Belles (Jr., Defender), Karlyna Kemery (Sr., Midfielder), Darby Pender (So., Forward), Sam Olewine (So., Midfielder)Others to watch - Alex Garcia (Sr., Defender), Meghan Handwerk (So., GK), Taylor Gallimore (Jr., GK), Tiff Yesik (So., Forward)Outlook - The Bulldogs are a very young squad looking to get better each day by working hard through each and every drill. Reinhard pinpointed he has the task of replace 11 players in key position lost from last year's team, and it's going to be a bit tough due to the numbers of available players are lower than previous years. However, this year's pack of Bulldogs are focused on working to improve each day, and hopefully they'll see positive results as the season progresses.Quotable - "This team is working very hard. They make up in effort what we lack in bodies, and we hope that results in positive results as the season progresses," Head coach Jason Reinhard.NORTHWESTERNHead coach - Kelly Bleam (17th season)Assistant coaches - Auralia LundquistDistrict 11 Class - AALeague - Colonial LeagueLast year's record - 21-2-1 overall (12-0-1 league)Key losses - Trista Cunningham, Abigail Schneck, Grace BakerKey returnees - Sarah Segan (Sr., Forward), Sabrina Mertz (Sr., Midfielder), Angela Motolese (Sr., Midfielder), Lexi Gawelko (Sr., Defender), Laura Hill (Sr., GK)Others to watch - Rachel Fisher (Sr., Midfielder)Outlook - Thankfully, we return our three leading goal getters with Segan, Mertz and Motolese. Unfortunately, we graduated our defense and returning starters Haley Hebelka is out for the entire season due to a torn ACL. As we build our defensive strength up, we will need to work our youngsters into a veteran team in order for Northwestern to have success this season.Quotable - "My expectation for this season is to see this dominant senior class provide impeccable leadership for its team. I expect an extremely cohesive unit in practice, games, and off field team activities. We have not set team goals as of today, however with the above expectations met, I am sure our goals will be within reach," Head coach Kelly Bleam.PALMERTONHead coach - Nate Petrosky (1st season)Assistant coaches - Brooke HornDistrict 11 Class - ALeague - Colonial LeagueLast year's record - 6-12 (3-10 CL)Key returnees - Monica Wood (Jr.), Brin Doherty (Jr.)Others to watch - Julia Paulinho (Sr.), Johanna Matsko (So.), Jenna Blynn (Fr.), Jaclyn Wood (Sr.)Outlook - The strength of the Lady Bombers is their versatility. Many of the girls can play multiple positions and are willing to play where ever the team needs them. They have a 100% team first attitude and have embraced a new coach (Petrosky) and style. Being a small school, experience and depth will be a concern as the season goes on. At the moment, Palmerton is coming off the most successful preseason the team has seen in years, with numbers for all off season conditioning and camps at over 18. To have a successful year, the Lady Bombers will need all of their returners to step up and show improvement from last year. Palmerton will need to stay healthy and have several freshmen that will be called on to play important roles.Quotable - "I've been coaching varsity soccer for over 10 years, but this is my first in PA and in this area. I have never coached a group that has embraced a total change in philosophy and style like these girls have. From Day 1, they set the goal for our team to make districts and that has been the focus. They have had tremendous attendance for all team activities and have bonded as a team. I am excited at the opportunity to coach this group of girls and am hoping their hard work pays off. We have a joke as a team that this is a year and season that people will be able to make a movie about us. Overall, its just a hard working and fun group of girls that have shown a willingness to put it all out there for their team," Head coach Nate Petrosky.PLEASANT VALLEYHead coach - Timothy Hinton (7th season)Assistant coaches - Derek Strohl, James ShoopackDistrict 11 Class - AAALeague - Eastern Pennsylvania ConferenceLast year's record - 18-4 (12-0 MVC)Key losses - Aubrey Aldinger, Keri Dekmar, Gabby Lucchese, Dana McAllister, Hailey Parks, Janelle Pastrana, Ema Sabovic, Kaitlyn Smith, Victoria Wiesmeth.Key returnees - Abby Leach (Jr., Midfield), Erin Sharpe (Jr., Forward), Rachel Steinmark (Sr., Midfield), Erica Neff (Jr., Defense), Zoe Dorney (Jr., Defense), Kristy Hansen (Sr., Defense), Megan Pohlman (Sr., Defense), Erin Driscoll (Sr., Midfield), Jamie Masullo (So., Midfield), Nicolle Dudkewic (Sr., Forward), Ariana Hernandez (Sr., Defense).Others to watch - Amanda Gaba (Jr., Defense), Morgan Covart (Fr., Midfield), Mikaela Miller (Fr., GK), Renee Milos (Jr., GK), Laura Whyte (Sr., Forward), Maliyah Jones (Jr., Defense).Outlook - Pleasant Valley has experienced players returning on defense and it will have to solidify the team as new members get used to different roles. Inexperience at goalkeeper will lead to a quick learning curve for players. The Bears will need to transition well as a team both in game and with new players at multiple positions. Once PV overcomes some injuries suffered in the pre-season, the team will continue to work hard as it prepares for life in the EPC.Quotable - "As always, I expect our teams to be competitive with anyone in the district. We have established and set those goals from previous years, so anything less is not acceptable. We will work hard and hopefully put ourselves in a position for postseason play. The girls will go through growing pains, as all teams do with a lot of turnover, but they are up for the challenge and are ready to get games going," Head coach Timothy Hinton.TAMAQUAHead coach - Clem McCarroll (11th season)Assistant coaches - Courtney McCarroll, Amanda Peters, KristinKistler, Brynn Lehatto, Ken MateyakDistrict 11 Class - AALeague - SchuylkillLast year's record - 6-11 overall (3-9 league)Key losses - Rachel Jones, Tanisha Farber, Mackenzie Heisler, Kaleigh RabenoldKey returnees - Morgan Boyle (Jr., Forward), Hanna Zoba (Sr., Forward), Jules Wagner (Jr., Midfielder), Lynn Kistler (Jr., Midfielder), Allison Amadeo (Jr., Midfielder), Monica Shimko (So., Midfielder), Caitlyn Joseph (So., Defender), Taylor Fritz (Jr., Defender), Kayla Wickersham (Sr., Defender), Juliette Reinhardt (Jr., Defender), Carly Sassaman (Sr., Goalie)Others to watch - Angela Ceci (Fr., Forward), Alyssa Campomizzi (Fr., Midfielder), Lori Kisner (Fr., Forward), Alexa Hromyak (So., Defender), Emma Pester (So., Midfielder), Emma Rago (So., Midfielder), Page Eltringham (So., Defender), Janelle Perla (So., Defender), Emily Wenzel (Jr., Forward), Kirstin Jones (Fr., Midfielder)Outlook - After a year of losing probably their entire lineup to graduation, the Blue Raiders were forced to take last season in stride and progress off of some valuable minutes of experience on the varsity field throughout the course of the season. The past is the past now and this season, McCarroll will turn to those returning players to use those minutes from last season to their advantage this season. Plus, with those numbers, which are probably at an all-time high for the program, the Blue Raiders now have some valuable depth at most positions. Meanwhile, the Blue Raiders are in the need of staying healthy since last season injuries plagued the team as they had lost six starters even before mid-season. McCarroll also mentioned an important fact that this is the 25th anniversary of Tamaqua Youth Soccer, which has helped keep our numbers strong over the years.Quotable - "After losing only four seniors last year, we return 28 players from last year mostly sophomores and juniors. We need to stay healthy after losing six starters for the season by the 10th game last year. If we can stay healthy, we should have a good season since we are deep at every position. However, practices are going well as the excitement level is very high and with the large amount of players there is competition at every position, which in the long run will make us better," Head coach Clem McCarroll.WEATHERLYHead coach - Jeniemarie Farrow (1st season)Assistant coaches - Julianne Grega, Missy IsomDistrict 11 Class - ALeague - Schuylkill LeagueLast year's record - 0-18Key losses - Rachel Moon, Courtney Dickson, Bree Hoffman, Jessica Hoffman, Sarah Peiser, Cheyanne Wallish, Angela Brill.Key returnees - Ally Isom (Jr., Forward), Meghan Moon (Jr., Forward), Christina Caravella (So., Midfield), Morgan Gower (So., Defense), Deanna Campion (Sr., Defense).Others to watch - Ciana Gomez (Jr., Sweeper), Shannon Frye (Fr., GK).Outlook - This will be a crucial rebuilding year for the Lady Wreckers. The practice turnouts have been large and the players have shown real dedication to the team. Weatherly should have a successful year if this dedication and hard work continues.Quotable - "I expect to rebuild as a program this year and use each game as a learning experience as to how we can improve as a team. It is not only important to win games, but to also keep a positive attitude no matter the score of a game. We have had many new players join the team and display dedication at practices. This type of dedication is needed to build a winning team," Head coach Jeniemarie Farrow.
