A Harrisburg man has been charged in connection with another bank robbery that occurred in Schuylkill County.
Monday state police at Schuylkill Haven charged Kevin Eugene Smith, 28, of 628 Curtin St., in connection with the armed robbery of the Halifax Bank, located at 920 E. Wiconisco Ave., in Tower City.
The robbery occurred on June 29 about 10:10 a.m. A man walked into the bank and walked up to the tellers and demanded money. He did not brandish a weapon. Once the suspect received the money he exited the bank and walked north across E. Wiconisco Avenue. Troopers allege that Smith was that man.
He has been charged with robbery, terroristic threats, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.
Smith was arrested on Friday and charged with robbing the Miners Bank in Tremont. After being arraigned on those charges he was committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.
Yesterday he was arraigned on the new charges before District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont, and recommitted to the prison in lieu of $750,000 cash bail. A story on his Friday arrest appeared on page 3 of Monday's TIMES NEWS.
