91st annual West End Fair opening tomrrow

The 91st annual West End Fair along Route 209 in Gilbert, Monroe County, begins its week-long run tomorrow.

Gates open at 10 a.m. Sunday with a special reduced rate. The fair will open at noon on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.Wednesday is Senior Citizens Day when seniors age 65 and older will be admitted at a reduced admission price. Gate opens at 10 a.m.Children's Day is Thursday and there will be games at the livestock arena beginning at 2 p.m.A highlight of Sunday's opening day will be the spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.Also at 11 a.m. Sunday, quarter midget racing will be held in the main arena by the West End Quarter Midget Racing Club.The Panther Valley Ecumenical Network will stage its annual vesper service on the main stage at 6:30 p.m.Performing on the main stage tomorrow will be country singer Nicole Donatone, with shows at noon, 2, and 4 p.m.Donatone, who made the album "If You Knew," has opened for such stars as Willie Nelson, Connie Smith, John Michael Montgomery, Tracy Byrd, Sammy Kershaw, Restless Heart, and Randy Travis and recently performed at the AT&T Pavilion Pre Show before the Keith Urban and Jake Owen Concert in Philadelphia.Also Sunday, Melody's Dance Studio will be performing in the band shell at 3 p.m., and Olympik Karate Center will give a demonstration in the band shell at 7 p.m.On Monday, there will be a championship Double Figure 8 Race in the main arena starting at 7:30 p.m. There is a special admission price for this attraction.Free entertainment Monday includes The Cramer Brothers, a veteran band from Monroe County's West End, giving performances at 6, 7:30, and 9 p.m.Also Monday, John Hamby and the Southern Comfort Band will be on the main stage at 1, 3 and 4:30 p.m.At 5:30 p.m., the Pleasant Valley High School Band will give a preview concert at 5:30 p.m.There will be three demolition derbies at the fair. They will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.On Tuesday, the big car and minivans will collide. Wednesday night will have compacts, pickups, and lawn mowers ramming each other. It will be big cars, compacts, and a rollover competition in the Wednesday night motor mayhem.Free attractions all week include The Marvelous Mutts, Comedy Safari, John Cassidy's comedy and magic show, Rowdy Rooster Puppet Show, and Cutting Edge Wood Carver.Admission to the fair is $5 daily for 11 years of age and older. Parking is free.
