State police at Lehighton reported on two crashes investigated by troopers along Carbon County roads.
A two-vehicle crash occurred about 12:18 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said the crash occurred as Victoria J. Carden, 18, of Palmerton, operating a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, was attempting to turn right into a driveway when her vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Betty A. Waxter, 41, of Palmerton.
Waxter and Creden both sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Palmerton hospital. Three passengers with Waxter and one with Carden were all not injured.
Troopers cited Waxter for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
The second crash occurred about 7:45 a.m. on Aug. 14 along Fireline Road at Sand Quarry Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Spencer L. Shigo, 17, of Palmerton, was driving a 2005 Acura MDX westbound when he lost control when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle left the road and crashed head-on into a tree.
Shigo, who appeared not to be injured, was taken to the Palmerton hospital to be checked out, troopers said. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Troopers cited Shigo for careless driving.
