Two Schuylkill County residents are facing drug counts in Carbon County following an incident in Jim Thorpe.

Borough police said about 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, they responded to the area of W. Fourth St., for possible drug activity. Upon arrival police found Jonathan Lowell Emerich, 20, of 157 S. Nice St., Frackville, and Courtney Anne Blewis, 18, of 730 High St., Ashland, in a Chevrolet vehicle.

While speaking with both individuals police noticed an orange needle on the driver's side seat. Both occupants were then asked to exit the vehicle.

While exiting the vehicle Blewis shoved an unknown item under the driver's seat. Police asked Blewis to give them the item, which was a plastic bag containing two large silver spoons, a silver knife, Q-tips, a red grinder with white powder, and three more capped needles. Also, one additional uncapped needle containing an off clear liquid was located in Blewis' purse, which Emerich admitted to placing there, police said.

Emerich also had Percocet in his possession.

Police charged Blewis with one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia and Emerich was charged with one misdemeanor count each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
