Pigs Game Day

Buffalo 4, Lehigh Valley 2

Hitting - Lehigh Valley used back-to-back doubles from Logan Moore and Gabriel Lino in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead over Buffalo. One out later, Chase d'Arnaud followed with an infield single to drive in Lino, stretching the lead to 2-0. The IronPigs would collect just five more hits over the final seven innings against three Buffalo pitchers.Pitching - Anthony Vasquez gave Manager Dave Brundage the type of outing that he was looking for with a double-header looming Thursday in Scranton. Vasquez pitched 6 2/3 innings for Lehigh Valley, surrendering five hits and four walks. Buffalo managed an unearned run against Vasquez in the fifth and then added two more in the seventh when Jon Berti hit his second home run of the season into the bullpens in left field.Key Play - Brundage mentioned after the game that Berti's home run was a momentum killer and thought it was a turning point in the game. Vasquez left a change-up up in the strike zone and Berti didn't miss it. The blast came on the heels of a leadoff walk to Chris Heisey.Pig Notes - For the 20th time this season, Lehigh Valley had a capacity sell out of 10,100 fans and 248 dogs for Dog Day In The Park… d'Arnaud's base-hit in the second was initially ruled an error when shortstop Jonathan Diaz dropped the ball after ranging far behind second base to make the play. After a post-game appeal by Brundage, the scoring was changed to a single and an RBI for d'Arnaud… Lehigh Valley catchers lead the league in throwing out runners attempting to steal, having tossed out 37% of would-be thieves. He said what? - "It really was that one pitch, a change-up that he left up there for the guy to hit. I thought that really killed the momentum for us." - Manager Dave Brundage on the home run by Berti.Watching the scoreboard - With the loss to Buffalo, the IronPigs were officially eliminated from any playoff spots. On the agenda - Lehigh Valley plays a double-header in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Thursday, with Jesse Biddle (2-3, 5.85) pitching in Game One and either Chris Leroux or Jason Berken getting the call in the nightcap. After Scranton, the 'Pigs travel to Syracuse and Pawtucket before returning home for a five-game homestand against Syracuse and Rochester to finish the season.
