Painting graffiti

The Teen Advisory Group at Palmerton Area Library are a little off the wall this summer. They are painting "nice" graffiti on a brick wall in the basement of the library as their summer project, under the direction of adviser and assistant director, Mariann Kmetz and painting adviser, Paula Zelienka. The graffiti are of things that interest the teens like Mickey Mouse, a globe, hearts and hands, a monkey girl, sneakers, dog, Snoopy and Woodstock, music notes and more. "The motivation was to make the area more attractive to teens and give them a place to hang out when they visit the library. I had kids come in and tell me 'I can't paint' and now they're all painting and they're doing a great job," says Kmetz. They hope to have the project completed by Aug. 15. Country Junction, Shea's Hardware and Palmerton Lumber were three big donors that helped with the supplies for the project. Helping on the project are, left to right, Paula Zelienka, Kristen Keiper, Arianna Shapiro, Eve Peters, Craig Peters, Michael Blichar, Jr., Brittany Irwin, Savannah Moyer, Kristen Rausch and Mariann Kmetz.
