No. Lehigh track team swept

The Northern Lehigh boys and girls track teams haven't enjoyed a lot of success this season..

Thursday afternoon, the Bulldogs were swept in a tri-meet with Palisades and Wilson. The boys dropped a 97-53 decision to Palisades and a 86 1/2-63 1/2 decision to Wilson. The No. Lehigh girls fell 94 1/2-55 1/2 to the Pirates and 88-62 to the Warriors. These kinds of days aren't going to slow down some particular Bulldogs athletes from gearing themselves up for the upcoming Colonial League championships.Caleb Johnson earned first-place honors in all four of his events, while Aimee Oertner finished with three first-place performances.Mike Seremula (triple jump), Tina Bastardi (javelin) and Sam Corcoran (3200 meter run) also had strong performances for Northern Lehigh.Johnson, who won the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles, the 200 meter dash and the high jump, put the team above his individual achievements. Johnson took the initiative to do what he could to help out despite the sluggish team records boys (2-6) and girls (3-5)."I want the team to do its best obviously, so you do that by doing your best everyday," Johnson said. "So, that's the best I can do give it my all for both myself and my team."Johnson beat his older brother Dalton by a second in the 110 hurdles, edged Wilson's Trey Robinson by a hundredth of a second in the 200 meter dash and then edged Palisades' Richard Bardell by 2.5 seconds in the 300 hurdles.Johnson finished off the day by surprising many in the high jump. A year ago, his brother Dalton finished second at leagues, Palisades' Collin Blaydon finished fifth, and Caleb ended up in 12th. Yesterday, he showed them both that he'll be someone to reckon with at leagues this year.Johnson beat both of them with a first-place mark of 6-feet, 5-inches, which exceeded the 5-feet, 10-inches he recorded at leagues a year ago. Meanwhile, Blaydon and Dalton Johnson finished second and third respectively."We're still in some ways trying to figure out events in the league and district events for him," said Northern Lehigh coach Mike Lehtonen, of Johnson. "It's really nice when you have an athlete that can do that much."So, today he got his first hack at the 110 hurdles. Obviously, the 300 went well and then you throw the high jump in there. He was impressive."Oertner came close to winning four events as well. The Bulldog senior won the shot put, discus and triple jump. A Tina Bastardi javelin victory was all that prevented Oertner from equaling Johnson's day.Bastardi tossed a day's best 103-feet, 4-inches for first, Oertner was simply happy to finish right behind her in second with a throw of 90-feet, 6-inches."She has been ahead of me in the javelin all season long," Oertner said. "It's not really my strong event, but she's definitely great at it herself and I'm not going to take that away from her."Hopefully, she can throw 110-feet soon with leagues near. We know she can because she did it at practice. I'm happy my own teammate beat me - not someone else though."BOYSPalisades 97, No. Lehigh 53Wilson 86 1/2, No. Lehigh 63 1/2Palisades 84, Wilson 66100 - 1. Trey Robinson (W) 11.3, 2.
