Coaldale firefighters converged around the 200 block of East Phillips Street just before midnight last night for a report of a brush fire. Although nothing was showing the person who called it in said the fire was still there. Upon further investigation firefighters found a burning fire pit in the woods about a quarter mile south of East Phillips Street. Firefighters used water packs to extinguish the fire. Coaldale Fire Chief Rich Marek, said the fire pit was close to a large rock cliff and pit which contained dry brush and such. He added that Coaldale doesn't allow open fires and these types of fires can endanger firefighters if they would have to respond to a brush fire. The fire company gathered evidence from the scene. Marek said if anyone knows anything about the incident to call the police at (570) 645-3060.
