Firefighters from at least four counties battled a stubborn forest fire Saturday in Polk Township. The fire started just northeast of the sprawling Wild Creek Reservoir of the Bethlehem Water Authority. Two airplanes and a helicopter made an untold number of drops on the flames as they quickly spread due to high winds. Firemen used four wheel drive trucks, all terrain vehicles and whatever was at their disposal to reach the remote area of the fire. The fire was situated between the Wild Creek Reservoir and Smith road. Neighbors in the area believe persons from out of state were camping in the area and may have started the fire.
