A wealth of health care tips and services will soon be at the disposal of community members.

Blue Mountain Health System and Palmerton Lions Club will co-sponsor a community health fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 21 at Blue Mountain Health System's Palmerton Hospital cafeteria.

The health fair is open to all ages and there is no charge to participate, said Mary Lou McGeehan, Community Education Coordinator.

"Community members have an opportunity to meet face-to-face with, ask questions, and receive information from, various BMHS departments and community organizations and agencies on a variety of health and safety-related topics, and they can access all of these services in one compact area," McGeehan said. "We offer free screenings and other services, and in our present health care environment, free screenings are beneficial not only so people can find out what their health risks are, they can save money in the process."

In addition, McGeehan said participants can interact with the Lions Club members to learn what they offer, and the fair is an opportunity for the Lions Club to recruit new members.

This year's screenings include cholesterol, glucose, BPs, Gait Analysis/Falls, EKGs (by appointment), Scoliosis, Asthma, Obesity, Depression/Anxiety, Pulmonary Function and Oxygen Saturation Testing, she said.

McGeehan said there will also be Personal Emergency Alert Demonstrations, Chair Massages courtesy of The Therapy Option, and Free Child ID Services, she said.

"We welcome people from all areas and all ages," she said. "There will be free homemade refreshments, door prizes and giveaways."

Community members are encouraged to donate their used eyeglasses or hearing aids during this event. A box will be available to place them in at the registration table.

Advance registration is required to have an EKG performed and an appointment can be made by calling (610) 377-7070.
