An American Red Cross Bloodmobile visited Tamaqua on March 28, collecting 42 units of the "gift of life." Meghan Gessat was recognized as a first time donor.
Multi-donation awards were presented to Maryann Deeble, one gallon; and Marjorie Heisler, two gallons.
Local volunteers assisting Red Cross personnel were Jean Stevens, Darlene and Bob Zeckman, Dolly Shirey and Bob Shirey. The gymnasium at the Tamaqua Salvation Army was converted into a blood collection center through the efforts of Randy Gormley, Jim Gormley, Bob Zeplin, Mike Trubilla, Joe Rimm and John Handler. The men also volunteered at the end of the day to return the gym to its natural state.

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing to celebrate the sixth year of its popular free Summer Concert Series. The concerts are held on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.

Applications are now available for season passes to the H.D. Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool in Tamaqua. Opening day will be June 4, at 11:30 a.m.
No season or daily passes will be available that day.
Steeply discounted rates for Tamaqua Area School District residents are made available through the generosity of the John E. Morgan Foundation. Rates will remain the same as last year.
Application forms, rate structures and additional information is available at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua office of the TIMES NEWS, 200 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, 114 W. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Public Library on South Railroad St.; Fegley's Mini Mart; and Our Family Mini Mart. Completed applications are to be taken to the borough hall.
To ensure having your pass by opening day, have your application completed and submitted to the borough by April 29.

Class of 1943
The Tamaqua High School Class of 1943 will see a change of plans for its 69th anniversary reunion, which will be held on June 16. Due to a reconstruction project at the Owl Creek Dams, the reunion has been moved to La Dolce Casa, 16 W. Broad St., Tamaqua. Festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. Reservation deadline will be June 1. The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the monthly worship service at the Hometown Nursing Home will be held at 2:30 p.m.
