Shenandoah shooting

One man was arrested and two suspects are still on the loose following a shooting in Shenandoah over the weekend.

Alfonso Reyes, 18, of Newark, N.J., was arrested late Saturday night after he, Juan Jose "Montana" Perez, 26, and a third unidentified Hispanic male shot Ledis Hernandez, 24, of Shenandoah in the backyard of 504 W. Coal St., Shenandoah on Saturday evening.At the time of the shooting, Hernandez was in the backyard of the residence with friends. Several shots were fired by Perez, hitting Hernandez in the right leg, just above the knee.Hernandez was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he underwent surgery. He is in stable condition.Several police departments, as well as state police, responded to the scene. An investigation revealed that Perez was the shooter and Reyes was one of two accomplices.Reyes was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and related charges for his involvement in the incident. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko of Port Carbon and is being housed in the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $500,000 cash bail. Police also discovered that Reyes is wanted in Essex County, N.J., for a probation violation from robbery charges.An arrest warrant for Perez has been issued for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and related charges. Police say he may be hiding out somewhere between Hazleton and Reading.The third individual involved has not yet been identified by police, who are continuing to follow leads.The police investigation also revealed events that occurred earlier Saturday morning that may have resulted in the shooting. According to police, Perez had been stabbed outside La Casita De Familia bar in Shenandoah.At the time of the shooting, witnesses said that Perez had words with Hernandez about that incident before shooting him.Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Perez or about the unidentified accomplice or the shooting, should call Shenandoah police at (570) 462-1008 or the Schuylkill County Communications Center at (570) 462-1991.
