Franklin Township crash injures driver

One man was seriously injured late Saturday afternoon when involved in a violent crash along Fairyland Road in Franklin Township.

The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. as the driver was traveling west in a Ford pickup truck. He apparently failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway entering the right berm continuing back on to the roadway crossing the centerline and leaving the right berm.The truck impacted with and snapped off a utility pole before striking several trees coming to rest on its left side. The driver was extricated from the wreckage by Franklin Township fire fighters. He was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics then flown via a medical transport helicopter to a Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center.Franklin township fire police maintained traffic control at the scene , closing down the roadway for two hours. Franklin township police are investigating the incident.
