Kindergarten and first grade students at the St. Jerome Catholic School in Tamaqua recently learned more about the importance of wearing seatbelts.

Carole Alonge, District 5 CTSP and BUPA State Educational Coordinator for the North Central Highway Safety Network, and Tamaqua police officer Mike Hobbs led the program.

Hobbs pointed out that a majority of accidents are attributed to distracted drivers. In addition to educating the students, Alonge stated the importance of parents to know how to properly secure children in a vehicle, as well as knowing current laws.
