Members of the Tamaqua Area Skate and Willing Park Association held a dance benefit recently to benefit the park, and Sabrina Hill, 17, who passed away last Friday night in a vehicle accident in Walker Township.
The family event, originally planned to be held at the park, had to be moved into the adjacent Tamaqua Community Center due to heavy rain.
Justin Startzel, a 2009 Tamaqua graduate, started the association, which is comprised of persons mostly in their late teens. The newly forming group of motivated Tamaqua youth have come together over the past few months to transform the local community park in Tamaqua into something of which the entire community can be proud.
This event, which included entertainers and dozens of volunteer staff, continued to show the group's dedication to the park and community. The Hill family was also present during the event. Startzel said, "The dance benefit involved many weeks of preparation."
Association members stressed their appreciation to a number of supporters, such as the Tamaqua Borough, Boyer's Food Market, Monster Energy Drinks, and DeZire Nightlife, which donated their services for the event. DeZire Nightlife members Rob Suchaverski and Tyler Pritiskutch, both 19, also provided a monetary donation to the event. Startzel added, "We are always looking for volunteers to help improve and maintain the park," adding, "anyone can visit us on Facebook and see what great things we have planned."
