Ten defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County Court before Senior Judge Richard W. Webb.

Webb accepted the pleas from the following:

Alan Clark, 48, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on Nov. 30, 2010, by state police along Koch Rd., in Towamensing Township. Given a test, the result was .14BAC.

A first offense, Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. On a summary motor vehicle code violation he was fined $25 and costs.

Brandon K. Eckhart, 28, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 28 along Fireline Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. Given a test, the result was .15BAC.

Webb deferred sentencing so Eckhart could apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with electronic monitoring.

Christopher J. George, 32, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was arrested on Oct. 5, 2010, at the Country Junction store in Towamensing Township.

Webb placed him on probation for a year.

Derek M. Hedmeck, 22, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Dec. 26, 2010, along SR248 in Bowmanstown. Given a test, the result was .15BAC.

Webb sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation. He will begin the jail term on Oct. 1 at 9 a.m.

James Edwin Hughes, 49, of Lansdale, Montgomery County, pleaded to one count each of DUI and driving under suspension-DUI related. He was arrested on April 3 along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Kidder Township. He refused to submit to a test.

On the DUI charge Webb sentenced him to serve 90 days to six months in jail, a fine of $1,500, 18 month license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation. On the suspension charge he was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail and a fine of $500 fine and another year suspension. The prison terms run concurrently.

He was given credit for 90 days already spent in jail and was paroled.

Donald Frederick Jones, 52, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Feb. 15, along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. Given a test, the result was 13BAC.

Webb deferred sentencing so Jones could apply for placement in the IPP.

Travis William Kuntzman, 30, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of trespass, as a summary. He was arrested on June 1, 2008, by state police for an incident along Spruce Hollow Drive, in Towamensing Township.

Webb imposed a fine of $100.

Jonathan Joel Puppo, 22, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of theft. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident that occurred during the period of Dec. 2009 and Jan. 2010. He was charged with theft of four propane tanks and 40 two by four pieces of lumber from Twin Builders Supply Company.

Webb placed him on probation for a year and make restitution of $386.69 to the victim.

Anthony Stephen Thorpe, 24, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was arrested on Nov. 16, 2009, at Walmart in Mahoning Township police, for taking a Xbox valued at $399.

Webb placed him on probation for a year and gave him credit for 140 days spent in jail on the charge.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
