State police at Frackville said a Northumberland County man was jailed on Sunday following an assault incident in the Schuylkill County borough of Girardville.

Troopers gave the following account of what happended.

About 6 p.m. Kyle Christopher Kent, 31, of Mt. Carmel, arrived at 334 E. Mahanoy Ave., where his wife, Melissa Kent, 31, was staying. She was in the living room when she heard something at a exterior side door. The door flew open and her husband entered the home.

He began to physically assault her about the face and body. He continued to assault her as he dragged her out of the residence and forced her inside a Ford Explorer. He continued to physically assault her as he drove around. At one point she attempted to jump out of the vehicle and flee on foot but was caught and returned to the vehicle.

Eventually, Kent took his wife to his mother's residence in Mt. Carmel where he and his mother, Mary O'Donnell, cleaned Melissa Kent up and gave her different clothing.

Eventualy, O'Donnel drove Melissa Kent to the Shamokin Hospital for treatment of injuries. Mt. Carmel police learned of the incident and notified troopers.

An arrest warrant was issued for Kent and he was located and taken into custody later in the afternoon.

Kent was arraigned by video at the county prison in Pottsville by duty District Judge James Reiley. Kent was committed to the prison after failing to post bail.

Among the charges Kent is facing include aggravated and simple assault, burglary, kidnapping and related counts, troopers said.
