DUI checkpoints

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program has released the results of Sobriety Checkpoints and a Roving DUI Patrol held this past weekend in Schuylkill County.

On Sept. 16, a Sobriety Checkpoint was held in West Penmn Township. Four law enforcement agencies, represented by 14 officers contacted a total of 932 vehicles. Officers detained 45 vehicles with three operators being tested for possible intoxication. All three were cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers also issued 10 traffic citations, made one criminal arrest and issued 31 warnings.A second checkpoint was conducted Sept. 17 in Schuylkill Haven. A total of 1029 vehicles were contacted, with 53 detained. There were 9 motorists tested and 3 adult DUI arrests. Officers also issued 28 traffic citations, one seat belt violation, made 3 criminal arrests and issued 18 warnings. Two departments were represented by two officers. Fifteen officers representing five departments were involved in the checkpoint.A Roving DUI Patrol was held Sept. 18 with 30 vehicles contacted and detained. Three officers participated. One driver was tested and arrested for DUI and officers issued 12 traffic citations, made 3 criminal arrests and issued 17 warnings.Additional checkpoints and patrols will be conducted through Sept. 26 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125,25, 924, and 54.The checkpoints and patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic safety Administration (NHTSA).The North Central Highway Safety Network reminds travelers to dial 9-1-1 if they suspect a drunk driver.
