Emergency personnel from throughout Carbon County were called into service Tuesday to rescue a young man injured after he fell at Glen Onoko Falls between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe. The call came in just before noon for a man who fell, suffered a head injury and was unconscious. Fire companies from Jim Thorpe, Nesquehoning, Lehighton and Penn Forest responded. A special all-terrain vehicle equipped with an on board litter was dispatched from the East Penn Fire Company. Because of the injury and the victim's location, he was taken to the State Game lands, where he was removed by the East Penn special unit to an awaiting ambulance along SR93 north of Nesquehoning. Usually the victims are brought down off the mountain to the entrance to the Lehigh Gorge State Park. Carbon County emergency management director Mark Nalesnik coordinated the effort. The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics, then flown via MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown. His identity wasn't known at press time.
