Taxpayers, where are you?

Dear Editor:

So few of you attend the Jim Thorpe School Board meetings that Board members who try to keep taxes low have no backup against those members who endorse "raising taxes."Several months ago the Superintendent and Business Manager took a pay increase freeze voluntarily for this coming year. Then a few weeks later they put in for an extension to their contracts. I said NO. A volunteer does not get paid in any way. Then at the meeting of 8/29 after discussion at Executive session they kept it on the agenda. I again stressed that it was a volunteer pay increase freeze and should not be rewarded. I also stated that if a year was taken away for every mistake the Business Manager made in past six months she would be out of a job. Another board member also stated that her contract was not up for renewal until 180 days before it expires. As per normal the GOB'S (Good Ole Boys) don't hear and voted 6-3 to give her the extension.Next meeting is 9/12- COME ON OUTEllen M.
