Registration for the upcoming CCD program for public school students of the Catholic parishes of the Panther Valley (grades 1-8) will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon in St. Joseph Church, Summit Hill; and on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon in St. Katharine Drexel Church, Lansford. Parents are reminded to enroll their child(ren) on these dates in order to avoid a late registration fee.
The classes will begin Sunday, Sept. 25.

The Anthracite Little League will hold election of officers for the 2012 Little League season at a meeting scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Building. Any and all parents of league participants, as well as members of the community, are encouraged to attend.

Legion to meet
The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.
A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.
The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. in the borough. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.
The Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food boxes to eligible families in town on a monthly basis. Deliveries are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of the month between 10 a.m. and noon.

Terrorist attacks remembered
On Sunday church bells at St. John's Orthodox Church, Nesquehoning, will be rung at the precise times when aggression was perpetrated on this country on Sept. 11, 2001: 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. for the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York; at 8:43 a.m. for the attack on the Pentagon; and at 10:10 a.m. for the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa.
Special petitions and prayers will be offered by the Rev. Robert Teklinski during the divine liturgy. Also, a panachida will be sung for all the innocent people who lost their lives on that day.
Coaldale VFW Post 6982, Fourth and Ridge streets, is hosting a candlelight ceremony in front of the post home on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at 8 p.m.
All are invited to attend. The event will be held rain or shine.
