A Weatherly teenager was killed in a one-vehicle accident Friday afternoon in Packer Township.

The victim was Carl Bittner, 17, a student at Weatherly High School.

Seriously injured in the crash were two other teenagers, Matthew Cullen, 17, and Christopher Lafey, 17, also of Weatherly.

They were transported by medical helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem.

Their medical conditions were not available last evening.

Cullen was reportedly the operator of the car.

Trooper James Meyers of the Hazleton barracks of the state police said the accident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on Wetzel Run Road, about a half mile west of Route 93.

Police said the car, a 1992 Ford Mustang convertible, was traveling west on Wetzel Run Road when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a large rock and then rolled onto its roof.

Trooper Meyers said the investigation of the crash is continuing. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked by Meyers to contact the Hazleton barracks of the state police at 570-459-3890.

The Weatherly Borough Police Department assisted state police at the scene.

Also responding was the Citizens Fire Company of Weatherly and local ambulance crews.
