Yenser's Tree Farm in Lehighton is donating real Christmas trees as part of the nationwide Trees for Troops program, sponsored by Pennsylvania State Christmas Tree Association, the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and FedEx Corp.
This holiday season, 16,000 trees are expected to be delivered to U.S. military bases, as well as an international shipment to military bases overseas. This total will put the program at over 100,000 trees delivered since the beginning of the program in 2005. Consumers will also have the opportunity to purchase trees to donate to the program at various FedEx trailer drop locations across the nation. Yenser's Tree Farm has been an active contributor to the Trees for Troops Program since it began in 2005, serving as a collection point for Pennsylvania trees.
"We are very excited about this year's Trees for Troops Week - Nov. 27- Dec. 4," Drew Yenser said. "Yenser's Tree Farm will offer a 10-percent discount to any military personnel with a current military ID card. A 20-percent discount will be given to any military family that has a member serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. During Trees for Troops Week, Yenser's will offer a 5-7' tree for $25, plus a 10-percent discount on their own tree to all consumers who purchase a tree for the Trees for Troops Program. Also, Yenser's will contribute $5 to Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, which implements the Trees for Troops Program and other programs for kids, families, and the environment, for every tree purchased and placed on the FedEx truck.
"People appreciate the sacrifices military members and their families make each and every day," said Dick Moore, president of the National Christmas Tree Association and owner of Moore Tree Farm LLC in Grotan, NY. "And, as Christmas tree farmers, we want to provide a little Christmas spirit and maybe start a new tradition with military families to be able to experience a traditional Christmas with a real tree."
"Trees for Troops is a great program! It is a win-win situation for everyone involved," says Christmas SPIRIT Foundation chair Nigel Manley, a Christmas tree grower in Bethlehem, NH. "Christmas tree growers love doing something for a cause; the military is appreciative of what they receive, and FedEx makes is so easy for everyone involved."
The collection and delivery of trees will take place from the end of November through the beginning of December. Consumers may make contributions to the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation at www.ChristmasSPIRITFoundation.org, or they can make a $10 donation via their mobile phone by texting the word 'TREE' to 50555.
