Halloween on the Hill will return to the South Ward Playground this year. The Spooktacular event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 and is being sponsored jointly by the South Ward Playground Association and the South Ward Neighborhood Committee. The day's activities will include a costume/baby/pet parade, bobbing for apples, a peanut scramble, games and a haunted maze.
Rain date will be Oct. 30.
Registration forms are now available for the 45th Annual Tamaqua Halloween Parade set for Tuesday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Forms are available at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce Office, 114 W. Broad St. Completed forms must include the name, address and phone number of a contact person, as well as the entrant's theme, number of floats, vehicles and marchers.
All participants will be called in advance of the parade with their position, set up location and entry number. The rain date is Wednesday, Oct. 26.
There is no entry fee. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top entries as determined by a panel of judges. Categories include Best of Show, Marching Units and Floats/Motorized.
The parade will once again be sponsored by the Tamaqua Lions Club, with assistance from the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Participants will assemble at the east end of the borough by 6:45 p.m. and the line of march will then head west on Broad Street.

The Tamaqua Lions Club is also accepting donations of used eyeglasses, which may be dropped off at the chamber office.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Allegro Bell Choir will rehearse at noon.
Activities for next week include: Monday, the Congregational Council will meet at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Learning Ministry Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Chime rehearsal at 5:30 p.m., Angel Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m., Chancel/Adult Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m. and the Property Committee will meet at 7 p.m.
On Oct. 22, garden maintenance will be performed from 8 a.m. until noon, cookie baking will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special Synod Assembly meeting will also be held that day.
A special homecoming service is being planned for Oct. 23 in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will provide the opportunity for current and past members, as well as potential new members to connect/reconnect with the church family. A time of fellowship will follow.
The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Te service will include a children's sermon.
Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.
